Colour Locked Into Stained Concrete Floors
Staining puts colour into the slab itself, not on top of it. Laval Concrete strips the surface to bare concrete, applies acid or water-based stain in controlled passes, neutralises and seals, then finishes to your gloss preference. The result is permanent, layered, and impossible to replicate twice. Free written estimate included.

Chemistry, not coating
How Stained Concrete Differs from Paint or Epoxy
Paint sits on top of concrete and peels. Epoxy coatings wear in traffic zones. Stain penetrates the slab and becomes part of it. Acid stains react with the minerals in the concrete matrix to produce variegated, organic colour that shifts with light. Water-based stains use pigments that soak into the surface for more uniform, controllable hue.
Once the stain has reacted and cured, it cannot fade or chip because it is not a layer. The sealer above it protects the colour and can be refreshed every few years. The concrete itself holds the stain permanently. This is why stained floors in kitchens and basements stay vibrant for decades with minimal upkeep.
Stained concrete pairs beautifully with polished concrete to amplify the depth and gloss. For a matte or satin finish, a clear sealer alone is enough. If the slab is uneven, self-leveling underlayment brings it into tolerance first. Explore the full range of interior concrete floor options, or consider micro-topping to resurface an old slab.

The Steps to Install Stained Concrete in Laval
-
Assess and select stain
We evaluate the existing slab condition and discuss your colour preference. Acid stain produces warm, earthy, variegated tones. Water-based stain offers broader hue range and more uniform coverage. Samples are tested on a real concrete patch.
-
Strip to bare concrete
Any existing coatings, sealers, paint or contaminants are removed mechanically. The stain must reach bare concrete to react properly. We confirm the surface is clean and ready before proceeding.
-
Apply stain in layers
Stain is applied in controlled passes. Light passes yield soft tone, additional passes deepen the colour. Reaction time between passes allows the stain to set. Blending and detail work balance the final appearance across the floor.
-
Neutralise, seal and cure
Acid stains are neutralised after reaction; water-based stains rinse clean. A clear protective sealer is applied to lock in the colour and provide durability. The floor cures to schedule before use.

Stain Plus Polished Concrete Maximises Depth
The most popular stained floor in Laval homes combines stain with polished concrete. The polishing process opens the surface to accept stain more evenly, the densifier locks the stain in chemically, and the polished gloss brings the colour depth forward dramatically.
Without polish, stained concrete still finishes beautifully under a clear sealer in satin or matte. Either way, the floor reads as a unified, finished surface. If the existing slab has low spots or cracks, micro-topping can level it first, or self-leveling underlayment can bring it into tolerance before staining.

Stained Concrete Floor Questions, Answered
Acid vs water-based, depth, sealing and pairing with polish in Laval.
Acid-stained the kitchen floor a warm coppery brown. The colour has variegation that looks like flagstone, no two square feet alike, and zero maintenance to keep it looking that way.
Stain plus polish in our basement. The depth of the colour and the gloss together make it look like a finished commercial floor, way better than the carpet we replaced.
Water-based stain in a cool grey for the sunroom. Even, modern, and the natural light brings out subtle layering you only see at certain angles.
They tested stain colour on a hidden corner first to make sure it would react the way we expected. Smart, and the final result was exactly what the test sample promised.
