How Concrete Product Selection Affects Long-Term Performance
Every layer of a slab has a job. The base, the slab itself, the waterproofing, the primer and the topcoat all work together. Cutting corners on any one layer means the whole assembly fails faster. We use Sika waterproofing and Ardex underlayments because they are formulated to handle Laval's freeze-thaw cycles and tested to back that claim.
Different surfaces need different products. A garage floor epoxy from Rust-Oleum is not the same as a commercial warehouse coating from BASF. Mapei self-leveling compounds work for interior floors; Quikrete bagged mixes handle small repairs. Matching the product to the application is how we avoid callbacks.
Manufacturer specifications exist for a reason. Installing the full system, primer through topcoat, at the specified coverage and temperature, is what keeps both the product warranty and our workmanship warranty valid. We document every product used so you know exactly what is under your feet.
Our process
How We Select & Install Concrete Systems
-
Evaluate the site and conditions
We assess whether the concrete is interior or exterior, what load it will carry, exposure to moisture or chemicals, and what substrate it bonds to.
-
Choose the right supplier and system
We select the brand and product line built for those conditions, then the complete system within it, not a patchwork of mismatched products.
-
Follow manufacturer installation protocol
We install to published specs for surface prep, primer application, coverage rates, temperature and cure time, which preserves both warranties.
-
Provide product documentation
You receive the product names, technical data sheets and care instructions so any future work is compatible with what we installed.
Material questions
Concrete Brands & Product Selection, Explained
Why we choose specific suppliers, how it affects durability, and what it means for your warranty.
They explained why the self-leveler and topcoat they chose was better than the cheaper kit I found online. Two years later, the floor looks brand new.
Foundation waterproofing done with a full system, primer and all. The basement stayed dry through spring melt for the first time since we bought the house.
I asked for a specific epoxy brand for the garage. They confirmed it would hold up here, installed it to spec, and handed me the product sheet and care steps.
What stood out was the paperwork, exactly which products went down and how to maintain them. Made it easy when we added a matching slab the next year.
