Sealed Epoxy Floors for Laval Basements & Shops
Bare concrete in a basement, shop or utility room becomes a sealed, seamless surface when you coat it with epoxy. Laval Concrete handles the full sequence: slab assessment, mechanical prep, primer application, body coat with optional flake or metallic, and topcoat for chemistry and wear resistance. The result is a floor that wipes clean and resists spills, stains and foot traffic for a decade or more.
- Slab prep done right, every time
- Three-layer epoxy system installed
- Written estimate, firm completion date
Surface readiness matters
How Slab Preparation Determines Epoxy Success
Epoxy that peels or bubbles within months is almost never a coating defect. The culprit is almost always inadequate slab prep. A coating applied to a sealed, smooth, or moisture-laden concrete surface will not bond mechanically and will lift. We grind or shot-blast every slab to the profile the manufacturer specifies, test for moisture, and confirm the concrete is clean and sound before any primer goes down.
Once the slab is ready, the epoxy system is chosen to match the room's demands. A basement laundry area might get a basic epoxy with a solid-colour topcoat. A workshop or hobby shop gets a tougher epoxy formulated to resist solvents and oils. A finished living space gets a decorative option, metallic or self-leveling, with a clear high-gloss topcoat.
The system is then installed in the correct sequence, primer for adhesion, body coat with flake or pigment if selected, topcoat for final protection, all at the right temperature and coverage. This same discipline applies to our garage floor coating work and polished concrete floor projects. When the slab is uneven, we pair the epoxy with a self-leveling underlayment first.
Installation sequence
The Epoxy Floor Installation Process in Laval
-
Assess slab condition and moisture
We inspect the concrete for cracks, old sealers, and moisture content. We confirm which epoxy system fits the room's use and flag any repairs or sealer removal that must happen before coating.
-
Grind or blast to profile
The slab is mechanically ground with diamond tooling or shot-blasted to open the concrete surface to the depth the manufacturer requires, so the epoxy can bond mechanically rather than sit on top.
-
Install primer, body, topcoat
We apply the full three-layer system in sequence, primer for adhesion, body coat with flake or metallic pigment if chosen, then topcoat for chemistry and wear resistance, all to manufacturer coverage rates.
-
Cure and hand off
Each layer cures to schedule before the next is applied. The topcoat reaches full chemical resistance after the published cure window. We provide the timeline for foot traffic and full equipment load.
Choosing the right finish
When Epoxy Is the Right Choice
Interior epoxy is the answer when you need a sealed, seamless, chemical-resistant surface that is easy to clean and durable under regular use. Basements, workshops, utility rooms, and finished living spaces all benefit from epoxy's washability and stain resistance.
If you prefer a hard, no-coating finish, polished concrete is the alternative, the slab itself becomes the finish. Stained concrete adds colour to the slab and is often sealed with a clear topcoat. Micro-topping is the choice when the slab is not flat or sound enough for epoxy or polish.

Interior Epoxy Floor Questions, Answered
Slab prep, system choice, durability and chemistry resistance for interior epoxy in Laval.
Epoxy in the basement utility room. Seamless, easy to wipe down, and our laundry-spill incidents stopped being a problem the day they finished the install.
Workshop floor with a chemical-resistant topcoat. Two years of solvents and dropped tools and the surface still wipes clean. They prepped the slab properly first, that is the difference.
Decorative metallic epoxy in our finished basement. Looks like a statement floor, but it cleans like vinyl. Way nicer than the carpet we ripped out.
They explained that polished would not work on our slab and recommended a micro-topping plus epoxy instead. Done right, the new floor looks like a brand-new install.
