Concrete Repair Mortars Built for Laval Conditions
When a slab cracks, a wall spalls, or a foundation shows damage, the repair mortar must match the specific situation. Ardex offers engineered formulations for horizontal cracks, vertical walls, deep structural sections, and surface patches. We diagnose the repair type, select the right Ardex product, apply the bonded-primer system, and deliver a repair that holds. Free assessment on every job.

Situation-specific chemistry
Why Ardex Repair Mortars Outperform Generic Patching
Concrete damage comes in many forms, and each form demands different material properties. A crack running horizontally through a slab needs flowable, flexible repair chemistry. A spall on a vertical wall requires a non-sag formulation that won't slump. A deep structural section being repaired needs high-strength mortar that cures without internal cracking. A surface patch on a floor needs fast set time and wear resistance. One generic mortar cannot solve all these problems.
Ardex engineered a full system of repair mortars, each formulated for its specific application. The real skill in repair work is matching the product to the damage pattern, then executing the bonded-primer protocol that makes the repair permanent. That's where most repairs fail: the wrong product gets used, or the primer step gets skipped.
We assess each repair situation, specify the correct Ardex mortar, and follow the full bonded-primer installation sequence. The result is a repair that lasts decades. See how this integrates with Ardex overlay systems for larger resurfacing, and with Ardex self-leveling underlayment when flatness correction is also needed.

How Ardex Repair Gets Installed in Laval
-
Assess the damage pattern
We examine the crack, spall, or structural damage and classify it by type: horizontal crack, vertical spall, deep section, or surface patch. This classification determines which Ardex repair mortar is specified.
-
Prepare the concrete surface
The repair area is cleaned to bare concrete, saw-cut to a clean edge where needed, and all loose material, dust, and contaminants are removed. Surface prep to Ardex spec is non-negotiable.
-
Apply bonded primer
The Ardex bonded primer is applied to the prepped substrate. This primer is what creates the permanent bond between the repair mortar and the existing concrete. Skipping this step voids the warranty.
-
Mix and place the mortar
The selected Ardex repair mortar is mixed to manufacturer ratios and placed at the engineered thickness. Placement technique varies by product type and repair orientation.
-
Cure and finish
The repair cures per Ardex schedule. Once cured, the surface is finished to match the surrounding concrete texture and gloss. Color will be close but not exact to aged concrete.
Common failure modes
Why Non-Ardex Repairs Fail
We regularly get called to fix repairs that failed within months or a few years. The pattern is consistent: a contractor used a single generic mortar for a situation that required a specific Ardex product, or the bonded-primer step was skipped or substituted with a cheaper alternative. The repair pops loose, the crack reopens, or the vertical patch sags.
The Ardex product range exists because repair situations are not interchangeable. A horizontal-crack product will sag if placed vertically. A fast-set product will crack if placed in a deep section. A product without the bonded primer will delaminate. These are not edge cases; they are the most common failure patterns we see.
Coordinate with Ardex waterproofing systems if the repair is in a wet or below-grade context, and with our full brand specialty portfolio for multi-system projects.

Ardex Repair Questions, Answered
Product matching, bonded primer, vertical repair and warranty.
Three failed previous repairs popped loose. They used the right Ardex product for vertical work with proper bonded primer; the new repair has held two years. Product match was the difference.
Structural repair on a deep slab section. They specced the Ardex deep-section product, not the standard mortar another contractor had suggested. Repair holds load, no cracking.
Multiple repair situations across one project, each with the matched Ardex product. The discipline of product-per-situation showed in the result. All repairs holding.
They were honest about color match limitations on the repair. Set the expectation properly, then matched as close as possible. No surprises at handoff.
