Your Laval Garage Slab as a Polished Concrete Floor
Laval Concrete turns the slab you already have into the finished floor. Diamond grinding, chemical densification, satin buff, done. No coating to peel off next winter.
- Slab ground and densified in-place
- Satin or low-sheen finish options
- Free written estimate, firm finish date
What the process delivers
From Raw Slab to Polished Garage Floor, What Actually Happens
Most Laval garage slabs are poured at 3,000 to 4,000 psi and left with a broom finish. That surface is porous, stains easily, and gives road salt somewhere to work. Polishing changes the slab's structure rather than covering it. Diamond tooling opens the surface, a chemical densifier reacts with the concrete matrix to harden it from within, and successive finer passes bring up a satin sheen. The result is a denser, lower-porosity slab that sheds oil drips and melt water instead of absorbing them. See how this compares to polished interior floors or the full range of garage floor options.
The finish level is adjustable. A working shop garage typically suits a low-sheen satin, reflective enough to brighten the space under fluorescent lights, flat enough that a dropped wrench doesn't look out of place. A stain-protector goes on at the end of the process, sealing against brake fluid, motor oil and the calcium chloride that Laval roads shed all winter. For garages with an existing failed coating, garage floor repair strips back to bare concrete before polishing begins.
The practical upside over a coated floor: there is no film layer to delaminate, bubble or scratch through to bare concrete. Hot tires, floor jacks and steel-toed boots all contact the slab directly, and the slab handles it. Maintenance is a damp mop. For homeowners who want to understand the cost side before calling, the concrete cost guide covers polished floor pricing in plain terms.
Step by step
How Polished Concrete Goes Down in a Laval Garage
-
Slab assessment and prep
Before any grinding starts, we check the slab for density, active cracks, pits and any existing coating. Failed coatings are stripped completely. Cracks and spalls are filled so the grinder works on a consistent surface throughout.
-
Coarse diamond grind
The first grinding pass uses coarse diamond segments to cut through the top layer of laitance, open the concrete matrix and level any high spots. Dust is captured at the grinder head, the garage stays workable.
-
Chemical densification
A silicate-based densifier is applied to the freshly ground slab. It penetrates the open matrix and reacts with calcium hydroxide in the concrete to form a harder, denser surface that resists abrasion, hot tires and road-salt intrusion.
-
Progressive fine polishing and seal
Successive finer diamond passes refine the surface to the agreed sheen level, typically satin for a working garage. A stain-protector is applied last, locking out oil, fuel and brake fluid before we hand the floor back.
Choosing the right finish
Picking Polished Concrete Over Epoxy or Polyaspartic, the Trade-offs
Coating systems like epoxy and polyaspartic build a film on top of the slab. That film is what gives you color, flake patterns and gloss, and it is also what eventually peels, chips or needs recoating after years of freeze-thaw cycling and UV exposure. Polished concrete sidesteps that cycle entirely because there is no film. The slab surface itself is the finish, and it does not have a recoat schedule.
The honest trade-off is decorative range. A metallic epoxy floor can look like a showroom; a polished slab looks like a polished slab, clean, hard, industrial in a good way. For homeowners who want the lowest long-term maintenance burden and are not chasing a decorative statement, polished is the practical answer. For those weighing both options side by side, we quote epoxy and polished on the same estimate so the numbers are directly comparable.

Laval Homeowners Ask About Polished Garage Floors
Durability, salt resistance, slip safety and cost, plain answers for Laval garage owners.
Polished instead of coated because we did not want to recoat in five years. Damp mop is the entire maintenance routine and the floor has been rock solid for two winters.
Tougher than the epoxy at our last house. The stain protector handles oil drips, dropped tools chip nothing, and hot tires leave no marks.
Low-sheen satin finish, exactly what we wanted for the working garage. No mirror gloss, no slippery surface, just a clean hard floor that does its job.
They tested the slab density first and confirmed it would polish well. The result is a finished floor that has nothing to peel, no recoat schedule to track.
