Tailored Concrete Countertops for Kitchens and Baths

A concrete countertop is a poured surface that becomes part of your kitchen or bath design. Laval Concrete builds them two ways: cast directly on your cabinets, or cast in our shop and installed once fully cured. Both methods deliver a sealed, food-safe work surface in the color and edge profile you choose. Start with a free on-site estimate.

Why concrete

When Concrete Countertops Beat Stone or Laminate

Concrete is not a substitute for granite or marble. It is a different choice entirely. You pick concrete when you want a surface that is shaped to your exact needs, colored to your palette, and finished with an edge profile that matches your cabinetry. Integrated drainboards, cast-in sinks, and decorative inlays are all possible because the surface is poured, not quarried. That customization is the whole point.

The casting method depends on your situation. In-place casting means the form sits on your cabinets, the concrete pours and cures in the kitchen, then gets ground and sealed there. Shop-cast means we build the slab in our facility, cure it fully, and install it as finished pieces. In-place works best for long runs and seamless transitions. Shop-cast keeps your kitchen cleaner during the build.

We coordinate the countertop with other residential concrete floors and patio surfaces if you want a unified look across your home. The same sealing and maintenance schedule applies to all of it.

The sequence

How Concrete Countertops Get Built in Laval

  1. On-site template and design lock

We measure the cabinet run, mark every sink cutout, cooktop opening, and faucet hole. You choose the edge profile (square, eased, ogee), the concrete color, and any inlays. Everything is locked before forming begins.

  2. Build forms and place reinforcement

Forms are constructed to match the template, with the edge profile inverted on the bottom for in-place work or the top for shop-cast. Rebar or wire mesh is positioned at the right depth, and any decorative elements are set in place.

  3. Pour, cure, and grind the surface

Concrete is placed into the forms, consolidated, and left to cure on schedule. Once cured, the surface is ground progressively finer, then honed or polished to your chosen finish level.

  4. Seal and hand off maintenance plan

A food-safe sealer rated for kitchen use is applied. You receive a written maintenance schedule showing when to re-seal (typically every few years) to keep the countertop performing.

Real-world use

Concrete Counters Handle Kitchen Work, Not Just Display

A concrete countertop sits in a working kitchen. It gets hot pans, sharp knives, spilled wine, and daily wear. When sealed and maintained on schedule, it resists staining and damage. When neglected, even the best concrete top can pick up marks. That is not a flaw in the material; it is the nature of a porous surface that needs a protective sealer.

We are direct about this on every project. A busy family kitchen gets a different sealer recommendation than a guest bath countertop. The maintenance is straightforward but real, and the quote includes the long-term care plan, not just the installation cost. That same approach applies to all our residential concrete work, from driveway pours to basement slabs.

Common questions

Indoor Concrete Countertop Questions, Answered

Cast-in-place vs shop-cast, sealers, food-safety, maintenance and edge profiles.

Cast-in-place is best for long integrated runs, integrated drainboards and seamless looks; shop-cast is best when the kitchen has to stay clean during construction and the pieces can be lifted into place. We recommend based on your kitchen and timeline.
Yes, when sealed with a food-safe sealer rated for kitchen use and maintained on the recommended re-seal schedule. Concrete itself is inert; the sealer is what stands between the surface and the spills, and it is what gets refreshed every few years.
Properly designed and cured concrete countertops do not crack in normal use. We engineer reinforcement and joints for the size and use of each top; hairline crazing in the surface is a normal characteristic of concrete and part of the look, not a structural issue.
Yes. Custom edge profiles (square, eased, ogee), inlays (glass, stone, wood), and integrated cast-in sinks are all options. Most of what makes a custom concrete countertop worth choosing over stone is the ability to do those things.
From template to install is typically several weeks because casting and curing are time-bound; the in-kitchen disruption itself is shorter, often just install day for shop-cast or a few days for cast-in-place. Full timeline is on the quote.

Shop-cast vanity with an integrated basin. They templated, cast offsite, installed clean, sealed it. Bath now feels custom in the best way. Maintenance plan was clear up front.

Honest that concrete tops need re-sealing every few years and counted that into the quote. Better than pretending it would never need any care. The counter still looks new after two years.

Custom edge profile that matched our cabinetry detail exactly. Could not get that anywhere else. The kitchen looks designed, not assembled. Worth every dollar.
