Stop Basement Leaks With Interior Waterproofing in Laval

Wet basement in Laval but no room to dig outside. Interior waterproofing cuts a trench along the slab perimeter, installs drainage tile that feeds a sump pit, and seals the wall so water never reaches your floor. Laval Concrete sizes and installs the complete system. Free written estimate included.

When digging outside isn't an option

How Interior Drainage Solves a Wet Basement

A Laval home with a finished landscape, a deck over the foundation, or a tight setback often cannot accommodate exterior excavation. Interior waterproofing is the practical answer. Instead of keeping water away from the wall, the system accepts that groundwater reaches the wall and intercepts it before it crosses the slab.

We cut a trench along the basement perimeter, lay drainage tile on stone, slope it to a sump pit at the low point, and install a pump that moves collected water to daylight. The wall is sealed at the slab so groundwater drops into the tile instead of bleeding across the floor. The concrete slab is poured back to bind the system into place.

The result is a dry basement floor ready for finishing. The pump is the only moving part, and it runs only when water arrives. Pair this with a basement crack repair if wall cracks are also leaking, or with a new basement floor if the existing slab is damaged.

Installation sequence

The Interior Waterproofing Process, Step by Step

  1. Assess the basement and plan the route

We identify where water enters the slab, measure the perimeter, confirm slab depth, and locate the sump pit and pump discharge. A site sketch goes into your written estimate.

  2. Cut and excavate the perimeter

The basement floor is saw-cut along the wall line, the trench is dug to the correct depth, and any failed or clogged drainage is removed so the new tile sits on clean stone.

  3. Lay tile, set sump, test the system

Drainage tile is placed on a stone bed, sloped toward the sump pit, the pump and discharge line are connected, and the system is tested with water to confirm flow before the slab is poured.

  4. Backfill, pour, and seal the wall

Stone backfill is compacted around the tile, a new concrete slab is poured to bind the system, and the wall face is sealed so the wall can dry inward without water crossing the new floor.

Interior vs. exterior waterproofing

Why Interior Systems Work When Outside Isn't Possible

Exterior waterproofing is the textbook solution when you can excavate the outside of the foundation. In many Laval homes, that is not realistic. A finished patio, a mature landscape, an attached garage, or a narrow lot makes exterior work impractical or prohibitively expensive.

Interior waterproofing is not a compromise. It is a proven system that does what waterproofing must do: keep the basement dry. The pump runs only when water arrives, the slab stays dry, and the basement renovation can proceed. If the wall itself is cracked or structurally compromised, that is a separate repair, but for a wet floor caused by groundwater seepage, interior drainage is the right tool.

Laval Concrete installs interior systems with a battery backup pump as standard. Spring runoff and power outages often overlap in the region, and the backup pump ensures the sump keeps working even if the grid goes down. We size the pump and pit to the water inflow we measure on site.

Homeowner questions

Interior Waterproofing: Frequently Asked

Drainage tile, sump pits, pumps, and when interior is the right choice for a wet basement.

For its job, yes. The two systems do different work. Exterior keeps water from ever reaching the wall; interior accepts that water reaches the wall, intercepts it at the slab perimeter and pumps it out. When excavating outside is impractical, the interior system is the right one.
An interior system needs a sump pit and a pump to move collected water out. A battery backup pump is strongly recommended in Laval, where spring runoff and power outages can overlap. We size the pump and pit to the inflow we measure.
The perimeter has to be opened up, which means baseboards, lower drywall and any finished flooring against the wall come off in the work zone. We coordinate that carefully so the rest of the basement is undisturbed.
It will intercept the water at the slab so the floor stays dry, but a leaking wall crack itself is a separate fix; pair this with crack repair or, if the crack is structural, foundation crack repair from the engineered side.
A typical residential interior system takes about a week from cut to closed slab, depending on the perimeter length and how much of the basement has to be uncovered to reach the work. The full schedule is in the quote.

We could not dig up the front of the house. Interior system put in, sump pit cut, dry basement two springs running. Honest about the system being the right tool here.

Existing finished basement, leaks in three corners. They opened only what they had to, installed the tile and sump, closed it back up clean. The pump runs, basement is dry.

They explained why interior was the answer in our situation and not just upselling exterior. The system has worked through every melt since. Trust earned.

Battery backup pump was their recommendation and we are glad we listened. Lost power for a day this spring; basement stayed dry the whole time. Worth every dollar.
