Laval Concrete Pool Construction, Shell Pour to Finished Deck

Two structural pours make a concrete pool: the gunite shell below the waterline and the concrete deck surrounding it. Laval Concrete handles both, built for Quebec freeze-thaw.

  • Gunite shell and pool deck poured as one project
  • Rebar and mix design rated for Quebec freeze-thaw
  • Scheduled around your pool builder and finishing trades

What the concrete scope covers

Shell First, Concrete Pool Deck Second, Here Is How Each Pour Works

The gunite shell is the first pour. Concrete is pneumatically sprayed against a tied rebar cage inside the excavated pool cavity, building up a monolithic shell that resists both the outward pressure of a full pool and the inward pressure of saturated soil during a Laval spring thaw. The mix design and rebar spacing are specified to handle those competing loads season after season.

Once the shell has cured and the pool builder's plumbing rough-in is complete, the pool deck slab goes down as the second pour. It is finished with a slip-resistant broom or exposed texture, graded to shed water away from both the pool coping and the house foundation, and control-jointed on a layout that accounts for the thermal movement a Laval winter produces. For homeowners who want more visual interest, stamped concrete is a common deck finish choice.

Plumbing, pool equipment, plaster, tile and coping are pool-specialist work, not ours. What we bring is the structural concrete expertise, the right mix for freeze-thaw, and a schedule that fits cleanly around the other trades. Four Stages of a Concrete Pool Construction Project in Laval

  1. Site review and drawing coordination

Before any concrete moves, we review the pool builder's engineered shell drawings, confirm the deck footprint and drainage grades, and map out where our pours fit in the overall project schedule alongside plumbing and electrical rough-ins.

  2. Rebar cage and embeds

The excavated cavity is shaped to the shell profile, then rebar is tied to the engineered spacing. Plumbing sleeves, light niches and skimmer boxes are set in position before any concrete is placed, so nothing gets cut in after the fact.

  3. Gunite shell pour and cure

Gunite or shotcrete is pneumatically applied against the rebar cage, screeded to the shell profile and left to cure. The pneumatic process packs the concrete tightly around every bar, producing a dense, monolithic shell with no cold joints.

  4. Pool deck pour, finish and joint layout

With the shell cured and the pool builder's rough-in signed off, the surrounding concrete deck is formed, poured and finished slip-resistant. Control joints are cut on a layout that manages freeze-thaw movement, and the slab is graded to drain cleanly away from the pool and the house.

Trade handoffs and scope boundaries

Where Laval Concrete Pool Work Ends and Pool Trades Begin

A pool build runs smoothly when each trade sticks to what it knows. Our scope is the structural concrete: the gunite shell, the surrounding deck slab, and any retaining or step concrete the yard needs. The pool builder owns the design, the plumbing, the equipment pad and the interior finish. Keeping those lines clear means neither trade is waiting on the other or redoing work.

Scheduling is where coordination matters most. The shell has to be cured and inspected before the plumber finalises the rough-in, and the deck pour has to land after the coping is set so the joint between them is clean. We build that sequence into the estimate from day one, so there are no surprises mid-project. If the existing concrete deck around an older pool is sound but showing surface wear, pool deck resurfacing is often the right call rather than a full tear-out.

Yards that include a pool often need more than just the shell and deck. A poured concrete retaining wall may be needed to manage grade changes at the pool edge, and a concrete walkway connecting the pool to the house or garage ties the whole outdoor space together. We scope all of it in one estimate so nothing gets missed.

Common questions

Concrete Pool Construction in Laval, Straight Answers

What the concrete scope includes, how gunite works, and how the project fits together with your pool builder.

We pour the structural concrete, the gunite shell and the surrounding deck. The plumbing, equipment, plaster, tile and pool finishing are pool-specialist trades; we coordinate the schedule with them so each handoff is clean.
Both are concrete sprayed pneumatically against engineered rebar in the pool cavity. The pneumatic placement bonds tightly to the rebar and conforms to the shell profile, giving a strong, monolithic pool body.
Yes. The shell and deck are engineered with proper rebar, mix design and drainage for freeze-thaw, and the pool is winterised by the pool builder so water cannot freeze in the structure or plumbing.
Yes. The pool deck is the second structural pour on a pool project, slip-resistant, sloped to drain away from the pool and the house, and tied into the shell. We pour them as one project.
Yes. We coordinate with whichever pool builder you are using, working from their engineered drawings for the shell and matching the deck layout to their finish plan, so the project sequences cleanly between trades.

Shell pour was clean against the engineered rebar. The pool builder commented on how easy our handoff was, and the deck was ready exactly when their plaster crew showed up.

Built the shell and deck for our pool over one summer. Coordinated with the pool company and the plumber so we never lost a day waiting on concrete.

They were upfront that they pour the concrete and not the finishes. Made it easy to assemble the right team. Both pours have held perfectly through freeze-thaw.

Slip-resistant pool deck that slopes properly away from the house and the water. Two summers in and not a crack at the joint with the pool.
