Laval Hangar Floor Coating Built for Aviation
Hangar floors must survive exposures that no warehouse or manufacturing floor encounters. Jet fuel, Skydrol hydraulic fluid, de-icing chemicals, and concentrated tow tractor loads demand a coating system engineered specifically for aviation. Laval Concrete installs urethane and aviation-spec epoxy floors rated for all of it. Free written estimate on every project.

Chemical exposure
Why Aviation Hangar Floors Require Custom Specs
Skydrol hydraulic fluid is the primary driver. It chemically attacks standard epoxy coatings and causes rapid failure. Jet fuel and avgas add their own degradation pathways. Winter de-icing fluids introduce glycol-based chemistry that compounds the problem. A single coating system must resist all three simultaneously, which is why off-the-shelf warehouse epoxy fails in hangars.
Load patterns differ too. Aircraft sit parked with weight concentrated at gear points. Tow tractors that move aircraft in and out create small hard wheels that concentrate load like a forklift, often at the worst possible angles. The slab and coating must handle both static aircraft loads and dynamic tow tractor movement without cracking or delaminating.
Our approach starts with a chemical exposure audit. We confirm which fluids the hangar handles, the spill frequency, and the cleanup protocols, then spec a matched system. See our broader aircraft hangar services and chemical-resistant flooring work. Apron and taxiway concrete outside the hangar door is a separate specification.
Installation sequence
How Hangar Floor Coating Gets Installed in Laval
-
Audit chemical exposure
We meet with maintenance and operations to document every fluid the hangar handles, spill frequency, cleanup methods, and any prior damage. This drives the system spec and prep strategy.
-
Grind and remediate slab
The concrete slab is diamond-ground to the coating's prep profile. Any zones contaminated by prior fuel or hydraulic spills are remediated, sometimes requiring removal and replacement. Cracks are repaired with high-strength bonded materials.
-
Apply aviation-rated coating
The matched system (urethane cement for Skydrol-heavy exposure, aviation-spec epoxy for general use) is applied at engineered thickness. Slip-resistant aggregate is broadcast into service areas where traction matters.
-
Fill joints and document
Control joints are filled with chemical-resistant semi-rigid filler rated for the same fluids the coating handles. The topcoat seals the system. Chemical-resistance documentation is provided for facility compliance files.
Load engineering
Tow Tractor Loads Are Often the Worst Case
Aircraft weight is distributed across multiple landing gear points, which spreads the load. A tow tractor pulling or pushing the aircraft concentrates force through small hard wheels, creating point loads similar to a forklift. At every turn or directional change, the tractor wheels dig into the floor. We engineer the coating and slab for tow tractor loads as the design case, which means the floor easily handles the lighter distributed aircraft loads.

Common questions
Hangar Floor Coating Questions, Answered
Skydrol resistance, tow tractor loads, joint fillers and aviation compliance.
Skydrol-rated urethane install in our maintenance hangar. Three years of regular hydraulic spills, zero coating failure at any spill point. Worth the spec premium over standard epoxy.
Engineered for our tow tractor loads, not just aircraft loads. The coating has held perfectly at every tow turn point, where the previous floor had failed within months.
Coordinated install during a scheduled maintenance downtime. Hangar offline only for the cure window, back in service on schedule. Real coordination with operations.
Documented chemical-resistance rating for our facility compliance file. Auditor accepted without questions. The documentation matters in aviation.
